Benefit for Gilda's Club® South Florida
Wednesday, June 29th, 2005
Seminole Paradise Improv - 8pm

Laughing Gas and the Improv Join to Benefit
Gilda's Club® South Florida

The Laughing Gas Comedy Improv Theatre Company, South Florida's longest running professional improv troup, worked with the Seminole Paradise Improv in Hollywood to benefit Gilda's Club® South Florida in a special 8pm show on Wednesday, June 29th titled "Improv at the Improv" or "Comedy Between a Hard and a Rock Place". Tickets were $10 and the proceeds went directly to the charity.

Gilda's Club® South Florida provides a meeting place where men, women and children living with cancer, along with their families and friends, join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. See www.gildasclubsouthflorida.org for more information.

Cast member Wing Armstrong has performed solo at the Seminole Paradise Improv at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood before as a stand-up comic, but this is the first time the entire troupe will perform there. "It's about time we performed in the casino," said Wing. "It feels like I have the home field advantage."

This marks the first time Laughing Gas, currently performing in its 13th season, has performed at this venue. While named "The Improv", the club is better known for quality stand-up performances. This show will present top-notch improv comedy at The Improv. Unlike stand-up comedy, improvisational comedy is actually created on the spot from audience suggestions, making every show unique.

"Gilda Radner was one of my heroes," said cast member Valerie Zach. "It's nice to be able to do a show that helps honor the memory of someone I look up to so much."

Many of the characters that Gilda Radner made famous on Saturday Night Live were developed through skills she learned through performing improvisation at Chicago's The Second City.

Several other organizations have joined to help make this event a success, including the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, Doral & Airport West Chamber of Commerce, Social Miami, and the Animation Shops of Aventura Mall. The show was featured on the front page of the Sun Sentinel and 101.5 Lite FM suggested the event to their audiences.

The show has also been chosen as a Social Miami "Pick of the Week".

"We're happy to be doing our part to help this organization," said cast member Todd Rice. "There is almost no one that hasn't been touched by cancer and it's the least that we can do to help."

"We're in our first year of existence joining with South Florida's longest running improv troupe to help an extremely worthwhile charity," says Rene Harte of the Improv. "The Improv is always happy to do its part to help improve the community we serve."

Over the past year, Laughing Gas, South Florida's leader in topical and satirical comedy, has performed shows taking on holidays, the Academy Awards, movie and TV events, and performed benefits for several major charities. This has earned Laughing Gas a reputation as a comedic force in South Florida.

We'd like to thank everyone that helped make the event a success and hope you will join us again the next time we hold a similar event.
