"The Impys" - Improv Miami's Best Comedy Awards for 2004
South Florida's top improv troupes will be honored in the 1st Annual Improv Miami Prizes or 'Impys' awards ceremony on Saturday, December 4th, 8 pm at the Shores Performing Arts Theater. Showcase performances will punctuate an evening filled with awards and top-notch comedy from some of South Florida's premier local improv troupes including Impromedy, Laughing Gas, Mod27 and Name Change Pending. This event will showcase South Florida's top improvisational talent in an evening that won't soon be forgotten. As the Improvmiami.com slogan states, "And you thought our elections were funny!"

"South Florida has become a hotbed for some of the best talent in the country over the last few years," said Ozzy Quintana, director of Impromedy, nominated for three Impys.

Gerald Owens, director of Laughing Gas, noted, "It's nice to have an award show that finally recognizes what all of us already knew...that South Floridians are funny."

Designed to promote improvisation as an art form in South Florida, the Impys are positioned to become an annual event to offer the best of improv. Aventura Marketing Council member Telcom.net's Todd Rice, who owns Improv Miami, said, "The audience is in for a real treat as this community's top improv troupes will be honored in four categories: Best Sketch, Best long-Form, Best Short Form and Best Extreme Improv. Improv comedy delivers a special brand of entertainment that has the audience participating by initiating the action with their suggestions.

Improvisation has become a favorite among theater-goers, patrons of the arts as well as college students, providing a unique take on the human condition.

Tickets are $20 each, and $15 for students and senior citizens. For more information about the event, visit the Improv Miami website at www.improvmiami.com or email Improv Miami at impys@improvmiami.com.
