Laughing Gas Helps Palm Beach 'Take
Heed' of New Theater Company March 19th
The Laughing
Gas Comedy Improv Theatre Company, South Florida's
longest-running improv troupe, will make a rare appearance in
Palm Beach County to help "The Take Heed Theatre
Company" at 8pm on March 19th, at the Stage West Theatre
on the central campus of PBCC in Lake Worth in a night
that will have the audience rolling in the aisles for just $15
(tickets at the door).
Laughing Gas will be one of several top improv troupes
in South Florida helping to support the growth of the arts community
and help support this upcoming theater to expand their programs
in a night of comedic excellence.
While already performing
through subsidiaries such as Mod-27 (improvisational performances)
and Storymakers (educational performances for young audiences),
The Take Heed Theater Company is expanding quickly. According
to its Director Dave Hyland, "The Take Heed Theatre Company
is all about developing and creating more opportunities locally
for both Equity and Non-Equity actors and directors and for those
working on the technical end as well."
"The theater community will grow and be vibrant as long as
we all work together," says Laughing Gas Director Gerald
Owens. "We are happy to help any way we can while also
providing a night of laughter for those who come out to see the
show."
"I've had the honor of being able to perform with Mod-27,"
says Laughing Gas cast member Todd Rice. "The shame would
be if we didn't support quality theater like they have shown me
they are capable of."
Later that night, Laughing Gas will be presenting their first
of four shows for "March Madness", centered around
the NCAA Basketball Tournament, in their regular performance space
in Miami Lakes at 11pm. "It'll be a quick transition,"
said Todd Rice. "But isn't that what March Madness is all
about? You can't win without being quick in your transitions."
Director Gerald Owens continued, "People who have been wondering
about us can find out who we are right there in Palm Beach. They'll
also get the chance to see some of what other top troupes can
do while supporting the arts locally."
Over
the past several months, Laughing Gas has performed shows to "Improv
The Vote", lampooned pop-culture with the "Academy
Aweirds" and helped with their "Improv-ing The
Community" campaign raising money for charities. Laughing
Gas has been picked as a Social
Miami "Pick of the Week" several times for
their themed shows and is regularly recognized for its socially
relevant material. Laughing Gas was also honored as Best Short-Form
Improv Troupe at the Improv Miami Prizes 2004.
